As part of the Federal Government’s Open Day on 17 and 18 August 2019, the Diplomatic Corps was present at the invitation of Dr. Gerd Müller, Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development on the first day. The latter, on mission to Rwanda, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Kenya, was represented by Dr. Maria Flachsbarth, Parliamentary Secretary of State.

She stressed in her speech the importance of SDG 12, which will impact on those 1, 5, 8 and 9. The launch of the “GREEN BUTTON” label, ensuring respect for human dignity and working conditions, the green production chain of our garments also has an important point of this day.

The latter is ready to study Madagascar’s proposals for the extension of areas of cooperation in the vocational training of young people.  A future visit of the Minister to Madagascar is also desired.
Outside this official framework, several events and activities were organized, including a trip around the world with Piet Flosse on the original stage of the show “1, 2 or 3”, a large exhibition on cocoa and a test of the chocolate fountain.

The public was also able to experience a virtual trip to Madagascar in the climate bubble, which allowed them to experience climate change with all their senses. In addition, meetings with BMZ civil society partner organizations, as well as interesting information on BMZ and German development cooperation, were made public, providing opportunities for personal engagement.
Buses have also been provided to connect all the sites concerned.
