On 05 May 2026, the Republic of Madagascar officially deposited its instrument of ratification of the Statutes of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) with the German Federal Foreign Office, the depositary of said Statutes.
Madagascar, a signatory to IRENA’s founding Statutes since 26 January 2009, has thus, after more than seventeen years, completed the accession process begun when the organisation was established. This ratification, welcomed by the German Government, confirms Madagascar’s commitment to the development of renewable energy.
In accordance with Article XIX (E) of the Statutes, these will enter into force for Madagascar on 04 June 2026, against a global backdrop marked by major energy challenges.
